Davanagere (Davangere)

The name Davanagere is derived from the term Davana-Kere, literally meaning "Village of Lake". Davanagere is famous for textiles. It is also famous for its educational institutes. Davanagere district was bifurcated from Chitradurga district in 1997. Davanagere district consists of six taluks namely Davanagere, Harihara, Jagalur, Harapanahally, Channagiri and Hoannali.

Davanagere lies in the borders of deccan plateau, Just above the Chitradurga. Davanagere district is bounded by the districts of Shimoga, Haveri, Chitradurga and Bellary. Davanagere city is head quarters of Davanagere District. It is located in the heart of Karnataka State on National Highway 4 at a distance of about 260 Kilometers from Bangalore.

Places to Visit:
  1. Sri Durgambika temple is very popular temple in the city. It is located in old Davanagere ie., Halepet in Shivajinagar. Surrounding this temple area is called "DEVARA HATTI".


  2. Sri Chennagiri Rangappa Clock Tower: The height of the Clock tower is about 75 feet.
How to reach Davanagere:
  1. Air: The nearest airport is at Hubli and the nearest International airport is Bangalore.


  2. Rail: Davanagere is connected to Miraj, Bangalore and Mysore by regular trains.


  3. Bus: Davanagere is linked with Bangalore, Shimoga and Hospet by road.
