The Biligiriranga Hills or BR Hills

The Biligiriranga Hills (Biligiri Rangana betta in Kannada), commonly called B R Hills, is a hill range situated in south-eastern Karnataka at its border with Tamil Nadu.

Biligirirangana range of hills are picturesquely situated between the Cauvery & Kapila rivers. It is about 230 Kms from Bangalore and 90 Kms from Mysore. B.R Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Situated at a height of 5,091 feet above sea level, this hill stretches from north to south for about 16 Kms.

The sanctuary derives its name Biligiri from the white rock face that constitutes the major hill crowned with the temple of Lord Rangaswamy or from the whte mist and the silver clouds that cover these lofty hills for a greater of the year.

B R Hills is considered as biogeographic bridge between the Western and the Eastern ghats. The hills are in the Yelandur taluk of Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. The hills are contiguous with the Satyamangalam range southwards, in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu.

B R Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Wild life like Gaurs, chitals, sambhars, bears, elephants, panthers and tigers are found here. B.R Hills Wildlife Sanctuary gives shelter to over 250 species of birds, about 22 species of reptiles and an amazing 116 species of Butterfiles. It is also known for its many endemic species of plants including valuable medicinal ones.

Other activities at BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary are trekking, coracle boat rides, amateur fishing, professional angling, bird watching, river rafting and outdoor camping.

You can witness the car festival of Lord Rangaswamy at Biligiri Temple held during 'Vaishaka' in the month of April.

Best time to visit: You can come to Kabini at any time of the year but June to October is best time to visit when the animals come out for water.

Accommodation: Jungle Lodges has a Wilderness Camp at K Gudi (Kyathadevara Gudi) with 11 tented cottages.
